Course details

The Role of a Chief of Staff is a complex role which requires balancing multiple priorities. The Chief of Staff will act as a filter, gathering information, assessing it and communicating upwards to their Executive.


The Chief of Staff face both outwards and into the organisation, sensing changes externally and then connecting these external changes to internal strategic decisions.


This 8 Module (Online LIVE or 2 Days Classroom) course explores the core competencies that Chief of Staff require and the balancing act they have to play when dealing with people, communicating, listening, framing, re-framing and prioritising.

Executive Assistants perform many of these skills and competencies and Executive Assistants can increase their value within the organisation and the support they provide to the Senior Leadership Team by developing Chief of Staff Competencies.

Module 1: Strategy, Operations & Organisational Culture

Explore the position of Executive Assistant/Chief of Staff within an organisation and how they take the organisational pulse to optimise culture performance


Module 2: The Core Competencies of Executive Assistant/Chief of Staff

Understand people’s behaviour at work and likelihood of succeeding in certain roles. Explore the skills, knowledge and capabilities required for Chief of Staff role. Assess your competencies against the SHL 'Great Eight Competencies'


Module 3: Chief of Staff role supporting Change Management & Managing Conflict

Review the case for managing change and the impact change can have on the workplace. Discover how Chief of Staff defuse pressures and ensure the implementation of necessary change, while minimising damage to organisational culture


Module 4: Managing & Coordinating Board Meetings, Corporate Governance, Stakeholders & VIPs

Module 5: Chief of Staff. Leading without Authority & Developing Emotional Intelligence.

Module 8: Chief of Staff Soft Power, Negotiation Skills & Summary of the Course.

Explore how to develop your Political Intelligence and use soft power and negotiation skills to influence win-win outcomes. Assess the ways you can become the right hand Business Partner/Chief of Staff to your Executive. Complete a CPD reflection of knowledge learnt and how to apply it going forward..
